My personal interactions with Mr. Arnold have been numerous. I had problems in a few areas and through a few emails Mr. Arnold answered my questions about his methods and offered guidance on how best for me to organize my practicing methods and offered guidance on how best for me to organize my practicing schedule. Mr. Arnold's books are a work in progress. That may sound like a bad thing but it is not. I was informed by the staff at Muse Eek Publishing that he is currently adding video to most of his books which will be downloadable for free for customers who own his books. Through the videos he also responds to common questions students have about his methods and offers further in-depth information on the subject at hand. Many of his teaching methods are unlike any I've encountered in other books and therefore can be confusing if you are used to other methods. Here are some of the things I noticed. I bought a few beginning guitarist books when I first started. Mr. Arnold's 1st Steps was the only one that contained detailed information on technique with pictures and videos, chord progressions with strumming patterns and a multitude of videos and mp3 files to practice with. Videos were presented to expand my abilities past the chord progressions in the book. Many cool sounding alternative notes and chords were given to spice up my playing. The Music Theory book presented a highly simplified explanation of music theory with exercises to help engrain the information at each step and also included very valuable videos to help put each step of the music theory process into context. The Ear Training One Note Complete was a completely different method from what I was taught in school and took me awhile to understand. This was where the communication between Mr. Arnold and myself was extremely valuable. All this aside, what really matters is I've improved immensely in the past year and have a much better understanding of the guitar, music theory and ear training.
