Book Review: An interesting tale poorly told

Emilio Corsetti has clearly done a lot of research into an event that is quite interesting per se, but spoils some of the fun by cramming 20 pages of writing into 250 pages of book.
The true-life survival tale lends itself to colorful interpretation. Instead Corsetti decides to report every detail at the expense of both pace and character development. A lot of the true drama would be more poignant if only an editor's red pen had been used more liberally. Corsetti has a very simplified writing style; it's clear this was his first stab at writing for a broad audience. While the book was clear throughout (indeed, often a bit too simplistic), at times Corsetti assumed a familiarity with aviation that a general readership may not have.
That said, Corsetti found a good story, and it's a quick read. Frankly, I'd wait until the Discover channel puts together a 30-minute show that enhances the storytelling.
