For anyone that has a desire to cook using more grains in their meals this is a wonderful cookbook. I bought it primarily because I was getting a new rice cooker and wanted to have some new recipes to use with it. Great buy, well written, yummy!!

Book Review: A Definite Winner
Summary: 5 Stars

I (James' wife) found this cookbook in a bargain bookstore 7 years ago and found it to be a treasure chest of great recipes using beans, lentils, etc. We own many international cookbooks and I like how this cookbook incorporates international flavor without too much extra work. Most of the ingredients I keep in my pantry. Every Wednesday our family has a meal featuring beans and I have used the ideas and recipes from this book to prepare these meals. My copy of the cookbook is full of bookmarks, I have so many favorite recipes. I have since purchased many more copies of the cookbook to give to relatives and friends. I also know that many of my friends have purchased the book on my suggestion. I highly recommend this book to those who are looking for new ways to prepare beans, lentils, rice, and other unique grains. These recipes can convert the uninitiated to a love of tasty vegetarian cooking.

Book Review: A great book
Summary: 5 Stars

There are many good bean books on the market, but this one is perhaps a cut above the rest. The recipes are easy, delicious, and plentiful. A great addition to your bean book collection, or the only one you'll want if you are creating one.

Book Review: A great place to start
Summary: 4 Stars

I really, really recommend this cookbook despite a couple small issues I have with it.
Good points- great for ideas and inspiration. When I sit down to do meal planning, this cookbook it always on the my table. It has so many good ideas in it that I never get bored.
A few issues though- I disagree with the ratios of ingredients in the recipes. For example, the couscous salad has way to much couscous and not enough tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, etc. This is not a big problem- I just change according to my tastes. I'm just a little surprised I have to do this with so many of the recipes. The bigger issue is the portion size for the nutritional information. The portions are *huge*. Somebody flipping through this cookbook might be turned off by the high calorie count, not realizing that most people could not come close to eating that big a portion.
I do plan to give this cookbook to several people for holiday gifts this year, so obviously the good points certainly outweigh my minor issues!
