Book Review: A Fun Read and Exciting, if Odd, Illustrations!!
Summary: 5 Stars
My almost 4 year old and my 2.5 year old kids love this book. They've had it for about 6 months now and it's frequently in the line up for bedtime stories. I wondered about the illustrations but they think they're hilarious, especially when the Dr. is checking Camilla out and she's sticking out her tongue which is also striped. If you're concerned about how your kids will react to the illustrations maybe this would be a good one to try from the library first.
They also love the pages where Camilla is at school and she turns all "purple polka dotty" and "Checkerboard". I think the illustrations are a bit odd but my kids are completely engrossed by them and except for about 2 pages they really are checking each page out and looking for Camilla's patterns and oddities.
My kids are too young to really get the moral of the story although my older child is starting to get that when Camilla stops caring what others think and eats lima beans she goes back to normal. It's a bit much for them to understand the "virus balls" and "fungus blotches", so there are about two pages in the book that go pretty quickly although my older child does understand when Camilla "melts into her room" and can pick out Camilla's eyes, nose and mouth.
I think it's a fun read. I shorten up some of the pages (with the specialists and experts) but overall I think this is a book that will grow with my kids.
