Book Reviews of A Charlotte Mason EducationBook Review: Tell Me More Summary: 2 StarsI could tell this book was written by a homeschooling mom and not a professional writer...not because of grammar, but the book was lacking in information and flow. I know homeschooling mom's are great resources, nothing against them, I just was very frustrated with this book. I have read many books about Charlotte Mason and her methods, and I think this is the reason I was dissappointed with this book. My friend read it and learned a lot. I think Catherine Levison's second book "More Charlotte Mason" does a much better job. The second book is basically a rewrite of the first adding all the information that was missing from the first book, like more detail on Charlotte Mason and what she stood for. So if you are wanting to read this book, just skip it and read her second one.
Book Review: Good resource for those curious about the CM Method. Summary: 4 StarsThis smallish book (under 100 pages) gives a good introduction to Charlotte Mason's methods and ideas. I think it gives just the right amount of information to enable the reader to decide if they would like to further pursue the ideas of this remarkable teacher and her methods. This is the first book I have read regarding Miss Mason, and I am definitely interested in finding out more. The author covers, albeit briefly, such topics as: Narration, Copywork, Nature Study, as well as the more "core" subjects of Handwriting, Spelling, Math, etc. She suggests some resources, includes a bibliography, and intersperses some personal thoughts and experiences as well. All in all, a good introduction to the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education.
Book Review: Good Starting Place Summary: 5 StarsThis book is a great starting place for those who want to home school but don't know where to start.
Book Review: This book was very helpful Summary: 5 StarsI bought this book after talking to someone about Charlotte Mason style of homeschooling. I had never heard of her and wanted a quick insight into her philosophy. This book provided me with exactly what I wanted. It is short and gives a good overview of the philosophy. It does not inundate the reader with irrelevant information. I read it in one evening. I recommend it to anyone who is curious about the Charlotte Mason approach but doesn't want to spend a lot of time or money getting information.
Book Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 StarsI loved this book! Catherine made it so simple for me to get started with Charlotte Mason education while still absorbing all of the many writings of Charlotte Mason. I was able to teach my children while continuing to study. Thank you Cathy for simply making Charlotte Mason simple.
