Book Reviews of A Charlotte Mason EducationBook Review: Highly recommend - even for dads! Summary: 5 StarsI highly recommend this book especially for those homeschoolers out there who have heard of Charlotte Mason but have a very vague idea of who she was and what her method was all about. Catherine Levison has taken an elaborate amount of time and energy to compile an easy to use manual on the how-to of a remarkable woman's method. I have and will continue to recommend this book to my friends and fellow homeschoolers (and to my 3 sisters as well who are not homeschoolers). Also, my husband, with his very busy schedule, has been able to learn more about Charlotte Mason through this book, therefore, allowing us to be on the same wavelength as we teach our children using this method.
Book Review: A practical how-to for those who want some specifics Summary: 4 StarsI read and enjoyed some of the other books on the Charlotte Mason method (by S. S. Macaulay and the Clarksons) but I still was unclear on exactly how to implement the program with my child. Catherine Levison's book took me by the hand and gave me concrete examples of how to implement the CM method. Especially helpful were the sample schedules, from Levison's own home school and from Charlotte Mason herself. This is the book that actually got me started on implementing the CM method in my home school!
Book Review: A concise How-To manual Summary: 5 StarsCatherine's book was exactly what it is called, a how-to manual. With short chapters and an easy to read format I loved every minute of it. I never fully understood what The Charlotte Mason Method was until I read this book. I loved it!
Book Review: A lifeline that draws the reader back to the source. Summary: 5 StarsWhen I found this book, I had no understanding of Charlotte Mason. The schedules and explanations I read here were quick fixes for a burned out mom, but as I began using the book itkept drawing me back to the "originals" as well. For me Catherine Levison threw out a lifeline, but as I grabbed it and pulled myself in, I found Charlotte Mason holding the other end of the line! I think the two ladies work very well together!
Book Review: SO much, in such a concise book!!!! Summary: 5 StarsI feel so privileged to have found Mrs. Levison's book!!! What a helpful tool! I was fortunate to read S.S. Macaulay's book, , before I started homeschooling. It was very inspiring and set me on the path towards following Charlotte Mason's educational philosophies. But it wasn't until I read Catherine's book that I was able to actually put "the vision" into action. And, she encouraged me to read Charlotte's writings for myself--something I am very thankful for! The book is very practical and just what I needed to help me not simply theorize, but actually DO IT!
