Book Review: Bold Adult Fantasy Well Worth A Read

I was certainly unsure whether to read this novel after seeing the mixed reviews. Also,I hadn't read anything by either of these authors before, so wasn't entirely sure about starting with this one. However, I'm glad that I picked it up and gave it a try.
Yes, you should skip this book if reading about graphic sexuality bothers you. Even if it normally doesn't some of the sexuality is uncomfortable to read about, since, as another reviewer noted, it is akin to gang style rape. However, I believe this is an integral part of the story and to understanding the internal and interpersonal struggles of the inhabitants and why they are at times so uncomfortable themselves. *Minor Spoilers Follow* It explains the estrangement between the main character and his father, and his mixed feelings about becoming a part of this bonded wolf/man culture who protect the land. It is part of the strength of the bond and feelings that would make such a psychological union between man and animal possible. No, not everything is explained about this bond, but we don't understand everything about human psychology either.
I found this story to be a rather fascinating look at a complex and different world, and one that held my attention. You do have to pay careful attention to the unfamiliar names to keep everyone straight, but in the end this adds to the authenticity of this story. All in all, this was a good journey to an unusual and different place and one that I'm glad I took. I look forward to reading more from both of these talented authors.
