Book Review: A Country of Vast Designs
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a combination biography of James Polk and history of the westward expansion during his Presidency. It brings out Polk's determination to see the expansion of the country, basically west of the Mississippi including Texas, the Spanish territory, and the British territory of Oregon. He accomplished this in his four year term, against considerable opposition.
A well written account of this historical accomplishment, plus his early relationship with Andrew Jackson.
