Book Reviews of A Dangerous FortuneBook Review: Great Read! Summary: 5 Stars
The book smokes; it is non stop action with plot twists. Character developement is superb. Not a wasted paragraph of description. This is first class writing and story telling.
Book Review: Great entertainment Summary: 3 Stars
The last 200 pages of this book simply fly. Some of the plot twists aren't particularly original, but the author certainly knows how to hook the reader with his prose. A worthwhile, memorable read, but definitely not classic literature.
Book Review: Great entertainment (no more, but no less either..) Summary: 4 Stars
Ken Follett has always been a favourite of mine. As other 'bestseller writers' he has a cash-proven ability to spin together plots that make you stay up much longer than you ought to. This offering proves that this skill is still with him. However this book is a bit of a soap opera. An entertaing one, but still. I miss Follett's normal 'added value' in comparison with the likes of Ludlum an Wilbur Smith, namely the ability to people his books with people rather than cartoon figures. The plot and the scenes are all a bit too predictable, the main characters too one-dimensional. If you are on the lookout for a book that will leave you with a pensive smile and new insights, give this one a pass. If, however, you are looking for an entertaining and well-crafted saga to keep you company on a plane ride or in your bed, this is a good choice. And don't be put off by the 'smut' warning above. Follett is a romantic at heart and while intimate scenes abound, they are well written and there for a purpose. But Mr Ken, please play it a little less safe next time around.
Book Review: Great story, too much sleaze Summary: 4 Stars
Follett is a great writer and gives a great feeling of the times. This story is no different with great character development and an imaginative plot. My only complaint is that Follett focuses way too much on sex. In fact he does in most of his novels, but this one just has too many details. This book would've been 5 stars without the ....
Book Review: Greed Personified Summary: 5 Stars
Like so many good books, this deals with the issues of moral luck and good against evil. The "dangerous fortune" is not really evil in itself, but the greed for the power that it represents is the primary culprit. This is a very readable book with interesting character development, told in a way that forbids you to put it down until the end.
