Hard Case Crime have re-issued this fantastic book by Lawrence Block. This is the first publication since 1961, and what a story we have been missing out on.
Set in Greenwich Village, New York during the Beat Generation; Shank and Joe, two misfits live together. Shank is a small time dealer in pot and Joe just bums around after doing his tour in Korea. Into their lives steps nice girl Anita Carbone. Joe and Anita fall in love, with Anita moving in with Joe and Shank. Shank steps up in his dealing, offering heroin as well as pot. Things go along fine for a time, but then Shank rapes Anita and when a cop tries to bust him for dealing he commits murder.
With Shank, Joe and Anita on the run, will they manage to evade the police? Will Joe find out about the rape? I'm not going to spoil this for you, so you're going to have to read the story yourself. Definitely a good book to keep you entertained.
