Book Reviews of A Farewell to Arms (Scribner Classics)

Book Review: Hemingway rode on the coat tails of F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Summary: 1 Stars

None of Hemingway's work including A Farewell To Arms should be touted as "Classic". Hemingway caught a ride on the coat tails of F. Scott Fitzgerald and without him as a predecessor Hemingway's body of work would have died the timely death it deserved. A Farewell To Arms is yet another example of Hemingway's inability to forward narrative in an interesting manner or to develop characters that anybody could care a whit about

Book Review: a great book
Summary: 4 Stars

I just read this book for the first time in my college Humanities class and I loved the mix of humor and seriousness that Hemingway mixes so well. My favorite line was, "I was blown up...eating cheese."

Book Review: Overall, this book lacks a source of intrigue.
Summary: 2 Stars

This book, while portraying realistic portions of World War I, seems more of an attempt to boost the author's ego than to entertain. The way he (the author) has the nurse systematically slobbering over the wounded soldier is nauseating, at times to the point where it is more rewarding to skip the entire section. The only interesting parts that I found in this book were the battle scenes, too bad there were only one or two of them

Book Review: Review of Farewell to Arms- a fantastic and dramatic book
Summary: 5 Stars

Need I say more than, "...in the rain."

Book Review: I found nothing too thrilling about this book.
Summary: 3 Stars

If you like reading books which are straight forward and to the point, this book may be for you. What I did like about the book is that it realistically portrays war and that it is one of the first written, truthful tales of the horrors of war from the perspective of a soldier. The plot itself has all of the criteria needed to make a great novel. In its pages there is love, great action, and depth. There are many important issues which come up, especially those surrounding the senselessness of war. However, I simply did not like Hemingway's style of writing. There is very little description and the sentences are short and choppy. This makes the novel very bland. I am looking forward to seeing the screen adaptation
