Book Review: Best Indian novel in English I've ever read

To follow the fortunes of Dinabai, Om, Ishvar and Maneck is to ride an astonishing rollercoaster across the Indian landscape. There are many chambers of unspeakable horrors that Mistry describes starkly, not reflected in any distorting mirrors. The characters are subtly and compellingly drawn and interweave seamlessly. The central quilt motif is not overused but evokes the book's kaleidoscopic delights of texture and memory. If you want further evidence of the endurance of the human spirit against all the odds, and the precariously fine balance of the lives we live, read this brilliant novel.
