Book Reviews of A Giraffe and a Half

Book Review: A Giraffe and a Half
Summary: 4 Stars

Silly book. My one year old loves it because it is repetative. Pictures are hilarious.

Book Review: A Giraffe-and a Half---and then...A Giraffe!! - Spectacular!
Summary: 5 Stars

Vivid imagery coupled with the hilarious, rib-tickling narrative in this story continues to illustrate the magnitude of Shel Silverstein's creativity.

From the Giraffe and a Half looking cute in a suit, playing toot on his flute, to the snake eating cake who was told to go jump in a lake, to the entire montage falling in a hole dug by a mole including the dragon whose wagon was saggin..this is the most wonderful rendition of taking an event "full circle" that you will ever read!

Once again, Shel Sliverstein captures not only young readers but adults as well, subjecting each to a "young-at-heart" mentality that is completely infectious and renders the reader full of laughter!

By far Shel's BEST YET! Excellent reading for one and all

Book Review: A Laugh and a Half
Summary: 5 Stars

You can not beat a Shel Silverstein book. Always full of excitement and at the same time his stories stimulate a childs (and adult's) imagination. Never a dull moment and I think every family should have his books in their home.

Book Review: A Wonderfully Silly Introduction to Rhyme
Summary: 5 Stars

Shel Silverstein's poems are always truly a delight. Some of the collections, however, contain poems that are not quite appropriate for the very youngest listeners. A Giraffe and a Half IS targeted at the youngest audiences.

As the poem goes on, the titular giraffe is exposed to a more riotously funny situation on every page (a rose on his nose, glue on his shoe, etc.) My kids were laughing hard, and completing the rhyming phrases by the time the tired (and ludicrously attired) giraffe is rescued from visiting the mole in his hole, and divested of all his rhyming add-ons by various (also rhyming) people and animals.

This is a great book to read aloud to your children--just remember to take a BIG breath at the beginning of each page!

Book Review: An Amazing Book
Summary: 5 Stars

"A giraffe and a Half" By Shel Silverstein is an amazing book, especially for kids. I loved when my mom read it to me as a child or when I read it becuase it was always fun to see what came next. Sometimes I would even guess what was comming next. Both the pictures and the sayings made me laugh or smile. I would have to say it was one of my favorite books as a kid.
