Book Review: Another haunting masterpiece by Toni Morrison
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many of Toni Morrison's books, A Mercy, demonstrates her sparing use of words to invoke three dimensional images that remain in your head long after the book is finished. Though in some of her writings the reader is challenged to keep up with a number of characters, those introduced in this book are so richly drawn that it is hard to forget them. As in the her last novel "Love", Ms. Morrison saves the precious heart of this tale until the very last page.

Book Review: Baffling and Wonderful
Summary: 4 Stars

Quintessential Toni Morrison - weaving together complex storylines in a style that confounds even as it draws you further into the story. The text centers upon the relationships between four women (three enslaved women and their mistress) and the changes wrought by illness, death, love, and pregnancy. Most of the text consists of the internal musings of the three enslaved women. Morrison's prose truly mirrors unedited thought processes. That is both the book's strength and its challenge. At times the book is as confusing as it would be if someone suddenly found themselves inside your own head. It often takes a while to figure out who the narrator is and what they're talking about. The chronology is also hard to follow. It takes at least half the book to even begin to figure out what it's about.

That notwithstanding, the book is worth sticking with. By the end, the many threads begin to come together in a way that is quite impactful. And it makes you want to re-read it, which is probably necessary to fully appreciate Morrison's artistry here.

Book Review: Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have personally responded to some of the negative commentators. I mentioned to them that I think we have read and/or listened to a different book. I have no idea what they are even talking about! To me this book is achingly beautiful and one of Toni Morrison's best. In a short book, she captures so much, because her words are so perfectly chosen and crafted, it is if she is "channeling" the characters. I do understand that if a reader does not like or "get" poetry they will not like this book. So I say to them, please don't read Toni Morrison. I am a writer, and I listened to the author's reading of her book with rapt and amazed attention. She is a genius, and I cannot believe how stunningly and powerfully she writes and also reads this work. This book is not just a Mercy, it is a masterpiece. Perhaps those who didn't like it have a problem with being reminded of the horrors of slavery, what was done to Native Americans, women, and poor people in the 1600s. Perhaps it makes them uncomfortable to have to admit that we are still living with the consequences of the cruelty that was done to so many in the past. For those that say, they are "tired" of these themes and they have been written about already, I remind them that many of the injustices told in this book still goes on in many places of the world, and we are still living in the US with that aftermath and scars. I recommend this book to you if you are a serious reader, love poetry, and yes,are a "liberal." If you don't like poetry, feel offended by people reminding us of our collective guilt, and can't hear the "mercy" in this story, you will hate it. Stay away, read something else. Don't denigrate an author who can write circles around you. (And me!!)

Book Review: Best Ever!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is yet the best book that Toni Morrison has ever written. It's so deep that you probably will have to read it at least twice.

I will admit that while reading this book I thought that Toni Morrison was way off her rocker due to the way she writes. In all honesty you will have to read this book from cover to cover to get an full understanding of it.

This is my first time EVER reading her book and actually crying after I understood fully what it was about. I will not go into details, but in this historic time for our country (United States of America) for us to have our very first African-American President - Barack H. Obama and to read any books dealing with slavery and how people were treated worse than you would treat a rabid dog;to actually read what Women and African-American went through and to compare it to where we are today is simply amazing. There is only one way to describe this and that's GOD!!!

This is her best work ever! I wish I could tell you about this book and who is actually telling the story, but I don't want to give it away. In order for you to know what made me cry and why you would need to purchase your own copy and read it. If you borrow this book from your local library TRUST ME you will have to purchase your own copy for keeping. You will not regret it one iota!

This is a must read!

Book Review: Craptastic
Summary: 1 Stars

Shame on Morrison. Others have commented on the Kindle controversy. I'll back her on that, but not this book. The real question is has Morrison written anything good since Beloved. This book is her most insulting because it blatantly ripping off what she did so well in Beloved. The characters don't sound like they are from the time period. At times, they sound like Morrison preaching the prevailing leftist history, which brings me this point: the academy killed Toni Morrison as a writer.
