Book Reviews of A Mind at a Time: America's Top Learning Expert Shows How Every Child Can Succeed

Book Review: How to make the very best use of your mind.
Summary: 4 Stars

Mel Levine has written a most inspiring book for parents and teachers. So many of us focus on weaknesses instead of the unique talents and abilities of our children. As a parent dedicated to supporting the best interests of my children, I must recommend another book here called Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self by Rosalene Glickman PhD. Dr. Glickman, who was a school teacher for many years, understands from first-hand daily experience how children learn best. She teaches you how to use Optimal Thinking to be your best, make the most of your own thinking, and the thinking, special talents, abilities, and learning experiences of our children. Optimal Thinking is simple immediately useful, and life-optimizing.

Book Review: I Loved this book!
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely loved this book. I was impressed with his observation that there is no such thing as a perfect mind. He points out that everyone has trouble with SOME aspect of learning and uses himself as an example at times. He discusses the importance of discovering and nurturing strengths in the management and improvement of specific weaknesses. I have never seen such a positive presentation of learning differences. I recommend this book for ALL educators of school children- parents, teachers, therapists, etc. Instead of dreading the beginning of the school year, I was actually looking forward to it.

Book Review: I love this book!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a school psychologist intern. I bought this book to help me better understand the cognitive influences of learning problems. This book is great! It's easy to read and understand and not dry like many of the text books I've read. I would recommend this book to parents, school psychologists and teachers alike. This is one of the most useful books I've bought, by far.

Book Review: Ignore Dr. Levine's uncertain circumstances and read this book
Summary: 4 Stars

If you have a child with special needs, you must read this book. The previous reviewer who suggested that a reader not buy the book because of the accusations against Dr. Levine is overlooking the fact that many, many parents and teachers have found his books very helpful and hopeful. He has already volunteered to revoke his license and is no longer seeing patients. But what he has to say about children with learning differences gave me insights to both my children who have their own individual struggles. Instead of focusing on their inability to spell or memorize where the states are, I see two very creative children with their own gifts. Would I bring my children to see him? Not a chance. But I would recommend this book to another parent of a child with special needs in an instance because what it says is that important.

Book Review: Informative - should be read by all parents and teachers!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book clearly defines how different minds learn and process the vast amounts of information encountered on a daily basis in school and in everyday life. The author is clearly at the top of his field and can very easily communicate his findings in a way that is easy to comprehend, extremely informative and interesting to read.
