Book Review: A poignant, enlightening and funny book
Summary: 4 Stars
I loved this book, having initially been put off by the title!! Although it is a story within a story, it is a very good and compelling read. The family scenario is easy to relate to - adult children with an elderly 84 year old eccentric father, who has an obsession - a long term sibling feud, but the backdrop of life in Eastern Europe during the war years and beyond, and the deeper reasons for this feud was both moving and entirely fascinating. In terms of understanding the plight of one particular immigrant family and their reasons for seeking a better life in the West it was both poignant and enlightening.This novel is deeply funny, but tender. I was quick to empathise with Nadia - and even found myself interested in the tractor!!
