There are so many wonderful reviews here already. I couldn't put this book down. Allesandro Guiliani lives a life so large that few of us can imagine walking in his shoes. He lives alife with the full glory of one lived honestly, without hesitation, and with the courage and passion to overcome his natural and quite human fears. And yes, there is the war and love theme. Allesandro lives his life on a big screen in full color. There is no time for dealing with pettiness, self pity and self obsession. With the reflective narrative, we watch him make sense of his life as he prepares for death. He is a man who cannot look back and regret the choices he made. He left no money on the table and his spiritual beliefs allow him to approach death with a quiet dignity.
This book will pull anyone out (or at least challenge us to) our own tendencies to live in our small self secure worlds and miss the grandness of what we have been offered.
