If you love good writing you must read this book. The first forty pages contain some of the best writing in the English language. I presume Helprin has been ignored by the press due to his political views. Helprin should be hailed as one of Americas' great writers yet we hear practically nothing about him. His work is not overtly political so people of all political persuasions should be open to his work. We all have our opinions but boycotting this incredible author for his political independence is taking things way too far.
Helprin's writing is somewhat akin to Tolstoy's, both being epic in scale, concerned with subtle heroicism, and peppered with psychological insights. Memoir From Antproof Case is equally enthralling.
