Book Reviews of A Thin Dark LineBook Review: A really good read - but lock your windows and get your cat in first! Summary: 5 Stars
Other reviewers will give you the plot line, but needless to say it has a few twists and turns. It is gruesome in parts and I shuddered quite a lot when reading some of the details.
I thought this was a very well written book. I liked the relationship between Annie Broussard and Nick Fourcade because it developed over time and both were troubled in their own way. I'd love to see more of them. Yes, I felt sorry for AJ, but sometimes that happens in life. The nice guy doesn't always get the girl. Hopefully he will have more luck in a future book. Mention was made of characters from earlier Hoag novels and I liked that continuity.
There is quite a lot of violence and I think some of this was unnecessary to the plot. We knew it was terrible without having it underlined in blood continually. The language is also little over the top. Again, we can get the flavour without having it reiterated. I did live in Louisiana, although not in the same area and I believe some of the attitudes are more akin to the 1970s than today.
This is a complex story and I must admit I did not expect the twist at the end. Well written, at 600 pages I didn't think it was too long. I think this is on a par with Dark Horse as Hoag's best work.
Tami Hoag has grown up in her writing style. She could probably cut back on some of the violence and moderate the language. her skill at setting the scene and developing the characters means she doesn't need to spell everything out for us. Sometimes less is more.
Book Review: A taunt, exciting 'can't put it down' read! Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the prologue of this novel, I was hooked on Tami Hoag. She writes with authority, wit, suspense and a twist of romance. Thin Dark Line is one of those books you pick up thinking "I'll just read a chapter every night or so and finish it whenever". Not this one. The twists and turns will have you guessing until the bitter end. Tami Hoag is in a class by herself. Her characters are sharp, sensible, faliable and very human. She weaves a web of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you're not Hooked on Tami after reading this book, better check your heartbeat, hon,'cause you ain't breathing!.
Book Review: A winner! Summary: 5 Stars
This was the first Tami Hoag book that I had read, on the advise of a friend. I was very much impressed with the way that it was exciting from page one. I read this book in a day in a half. I usually don't have the time to read as much as I want, but with this book, I found the time. Buy it folks, it is all worth it. I also just read Guilty as Sin, and enjoyed it almost as much, but Thin Dark Line, was better in the fact that I didn't figure out who did it, until she wrote it in the book. Excellent book, excellent author. Brava!!
Book Review: Amazing twist at the end Summary: 5 Stars
What a great book. I've read and reread it.
I hope the two main characters surface in another book, because they were great.
The story has everything, in just the right measure. Sometimes very scary, I was kept on the edge of my seat.
Fantastic work Tami Hoag.
Book Review: An amzaing book worth reading. Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great book for anyone who likes intensity, mystery and a bit of romance in a book made to question what is right or wrong. With the many different twists in the plot that come up, you can't put the book down.
