Book Review: '"They're savages," Laila said.'
Summary: 5 Stars
This was one of the most powerful and upsetting books I have read in a long time. I felt it brought the reader into the desperation and hopelessness of people caught between savage factions without a stable central government.
The book raises the direct concern that women are continually treated as second class citizens who do not think the same way as men (Thank God). Although this may be a cultural norm, one questions when "inhuman" treatment becomes "subhuman".
Much has been written about this book that I will not repeat. I only want to recommend it to readers who want to expand their world view and realize that there is much primitive behavior that occurs in this so called modern age.
As I review the comments of others, I was struck by some of the reviewers that gave this book a "1 star" based on the depressive and disturbing message. Those details are the very reason that I gave the book "5 stars". I think everyone must be aware of the reality of others. After reading this book, I view the news broadcasting of the conflicts in Afganistan with greater interest and ponder if there ever will be emerging peace.
