Book Reviews of A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L'Engle's Time Quintet)

Book Review: Excellent Book: Kids Need To Think
Summary: 4 Stars

Sadly, it seems many of the "kid's reviews" show exactly how intellectually inept today's children are. I am 23 and first read this book in 4th grade. I had no trouble tracking the plot or engaging with the "slower" parts. Having been raised on dumbed down storylines designed to excite the emotions and leave the mind numb, it is no wonder these kids find the book "boring" and hard to follow. God forbid they should read something and think at the same time!

Book Review: Excellent for preteens and up!
Summary: 5 Stars

My fifth grade teacher read this book to my class(over 20 yearsago). I remember I couldn't wait for him to get to reading time eachday. Out of all the books he read this is the only one that stands outin my memory - a wonderful adventure with a heroine named Meg and anevil villain that kidnaps her father. The addition of the vividcharacterization of the three witches that help Meg on her quest tofind her father are both enchanting and attention catching tochildren. A few years ago I picked the book up and actually read it.It is definately a child's book but the nostaglia value was priceless.I definately recommend this book. I can't wait until my children areold enough to read it!

Book Review: Extraordinary!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book contained many first for me: 1st trip to the public library alone (6 yrs old); 1st time I obtained and used a library card; 1st book read by myself. Read it in '63 and have NEVER forgotten any of it. I WILL be getting the entire series for my 6 yr old (as soon as she can read it!) Thanks to Ms. L'Engle for making me a foracious reader.

Book Review: Fascinating and Compelling!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this book when I was in the fifth grade and it has been one of my favorites ever since. It fuels the imagination and has the uplifting message that Love Conquers All. It helped make me a science fiction fan. Now my daughter, who is in the fifth grade, is reading it and loving it as well. What better review could you get than that? An excellent, excellent book. It would make a great movie! I recommend it to anyone age 9 and over.

Book Review: First read at age 10, still love it at age 25
Summary: 5 Stars

I first read this book when I was in 5th grade. I loved it. It's an unforgettable story that offers, I think, for a child, the ability to see things in a different way. Which is an important life skill: looking at things from every possible angle. I have read many books. Anything from quantum physics and quark symmetries to Jack Kerouac and Kahlil Gibran. And I still get a kick out of this book every time I read it.
There are certain books that will forever stay in your collection and be read multiple times. This is one of them.
As far as listening to it on audio (in the car no less) and the complaints they had...I can only say that maybe you and the rest of the family should take on the joy of reading. It is quickly becoming a lost art an a forgotten past time. Maybe if you read it, instead of a machine doing the work for you, you would enjoy it more. Give it a whirl.
