Book Review: A Bookish Kid's review Summary: 5 Stars
If you're looking for mystery, adventure, mushy stuff, science fiction, and cliffhangers, this is the one.You should definitely read this book.Like it says on the back,it's not all science fiction. It fits into almost all the divisions of fiction;realistic, science, and fantasy. However,my classmate(we read this with my reading teacher as a trade book) at one chapter had nightmares, and my other didn't understand it.With a lot of discussion, she was confused no more. For the one with nighrmares, they soon stopped.I truly think this book deserves [infinite] moons out of five.
There are many reasons to read this book.First, it has a concept we all love:time/space travel.Second, there are cliffhangers, so you can be sure you're not just going to find it stuffed on your bookshelf when you move out.Third,it's about a brilliant scientist "leaving" an equally brilliant and beautiful scientist with four children;the "average" twin Sandy and Dennys, the "belligerent and dumb"Meg,and the child prodigy Charles Wallace. What else could you want? Oh wait, there's also the vivid details and so many mental images waiting to be thought. It also has many morals and a short but dramatic ending. It would take a few pages of size twelve type to list all the reasons to read this book.
I won't give away the book, even though I want to,but I'll give you some schema.Warning to grouchy, serious, stiff, and unimaginative people: you won't enjoy this book. It is all about the supernatural. It's about Meg and Charles Wallace ,with the help of Mrs.Whatsit,Mrs.Who, and Mrs.Which, saving their father and a planet from a force of evil on the way. This book shows how the power of love, teamwork, and opening our minds to the impossible are so important. I recommend this book very highly with a side of discussion to understand the book.It can be very confusing.Like(these are not the exact words) it says on the back cover of Frindle, another good book,if there's any justice in the world,Madeleine L'Engle should have something of a classic on her hands.
Book Review: A BOOK EVERYONE SOULD READ!!! Summary: 4 Stars
I recently read the novel A Wrinkle in Time. I would have to say that is was a wonderful book that no one should miss. The pages of this novel is filled with excellent description. Madeleine L'Engle's style of writing is fantastic. What are you waiting for? Go get a copy and see for yourself!
Book Review: A Book That Takes Your Soul on a Journey Summary: 5 Stars
There are some books you read as a child that will always hold a precious place in your memory, as journeys that took your soul to places it had never been before. And if the book is especially precious, you come back to it again and again over the decades, and it has new things to teach you each time, that as your soul grows through age and wisdom you are better equipped to understand.
Such a book is A Wrinkle in Time, the 1963 Newberry Award Winner by Madeline L'Engle. For those who have never read it, the novel follows Meg, a young misfit adolescent as she is suddenly catapulted across the galaxy to rescue her father. Along the way, she discovers lessons about love, loyalty, courage, and the nature of fighting against evil. As in the worlds of Tolkien and Lewis, the world is magical but the characters and their situations reflect Biblical reality and ethics. The lessons taught through the medium of fiction thus are not "preachy" but still powerful, ones that are still worth pondering for me. Well worth reading, again and again.
