Book Review: "Oh, Grandma... whose?"

A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck is a very easy read, and very entertaining. Mary-Alice Dowdel must go down to her Grandma's sleepy country town during the Great Depression recession, and finds that she must become a little like her trigger-happy Grandma to make her keep. With such adventures like the Christmas Pagaent with a timely surprise, a Valentine's Day where Mary-Alice and her friend Ina-Rae Gage have a sinister plot for the town's school's popular girl, Carleen Lovejoy. Other surprises and fun read happen during Halloween, Harvest Time, and a scandal that sends rumors flying about the postmistress, Maxine Patch.
This book is a great read for all ages, and Grandma Dowdel's adventures and beliefs will give the most stony-faced person a good laugh. Touching moments are also thrown in, to give this book a solid message, while keeping the reader entertained all the way through. The spin-off from A Long Way From Chicago gives it's predecessor a run for its money with amount of giggles issued from reading- Richard Peck topped a book with no equal, and gave it a much more interesting spin on life.
With all of that said, this book is a must for any reader and to have for a life-time, as it shall be a lesson for all ages, and for ages to come.
