"They fly toward grace." A magical ending to a fantastic book. I've read several of Pynchon's novels and always start out intimidated by the idea of Pynchon's novels, but by the end I'm almost enslaved by them. 'Against the Day' for me is like a post-modern version of Tolstoy's War and Peace (remove Schopenhauer and replace w/ Heidegger/Eastern Philosophy/Marx/Pythagoras) meets Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, meets Conrad's The Secret Agent, meets Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursdaymeets Wells' The Time Machine. All these mixed and edited by William Burroughs and his perverse, time-altering scissors. Again, the 'War and Peace' similarities kept coming at me. I thought Pynchon could have easily named this novel Being and Time except that title was already taken.
