Book Review: Disappointing
Summary: 3 Stars

For those of you who have read the first book, the premise is simple. John Taylor, a private eye in the Nightside, the gaudy, neon noir, secret heart of London where Gods and monsters wake to make deals and seek pleasures they won't find anywhere else, has a gift for finding things... this time its the unholy grail. Unfortunately for John, almost everything else including Angels and Devils are also searching and think he's the man for the job.

Ok, so we have the same characters back again for book 2 and the hope that we'll fnid something else out about John's mysterious past. Instead, we get given some fun adventure story with no twists turns or suprises. Well written as always, with heroes who are almost superhuman and baddies who are super evil it links in a couple of other books such as Drinking Midnight Wine and has typical Green set pieces between good and evil. Sounds good so far, hey...

The problem is that it could have been so much more. We learn nothing more of the plotline started in book 1, no new characters of any worth are introduced and all in all its almost a filler book whilst he thinks how he will continue the major plotline. Its worth reading if you like Greens work but will likely leave you slightly disappointed that he seems to have lost a bit of form in this book.

If you've read this and are wondering whether to buy it or not - if you bought the first, buy this one as it is a good read (just don't expect too much), if you're new, buy the first book or start the Deathstalker series.
