Book Review: Novel a disappointment to any BL or Yaoi fan

I bought Ai no Kusabi expecting to get an interesting yaoi manga, with a background in a slum struggling to get on its feet and a hierarchy system that was sure to lend itself to some interesting scenes.
Well, forget it. For one thing, it's not a manga. The picture provided is the Japanese cover which, unless you are fluent in reading Japanese, fails to show you that it's a novel. It's 129 pages of awkwardly-translated story, with some 5 tame black-and-white pictures thrown into the mix.
The BL consists of one scene at the beginning lasting a few pages, a brief mention that there are few girls in the city, and that the "sidekick" character is the main characters special someone... and that is it. Most of it is dialog of the two main characters arguing and having inner conflict about how similar they are, with the remainder talking about the politics of the land they live in. There isn't really a plot to speak of.
The names of characters and gangs seem random and are randomly thrown in with little introduction, often requiring you to refer back several pages to work out who is who.
If you're just getting into the BL or Yaoi genre or if you're a long-term collector, steer clear of this.
