Book Reviews of All-American GirlBook Review: All American Girl Summary: 5 Stars
In Meg's Cabot's All American Girl, Samantha Madison has a horrible life. She is considered the biggest loser of the school, her older sister is a cheerleader, her younger sister is a certified genius, she has to take drawing classes, and she feels left out. Because her older sister told her parents that she was drawing celebrities, Sam is forced to take drawing classes that "stifle" her creativity. One day, she decides to ditch class and ends up standing next to a man that is attempting to kill the president. Without thinking, she jumps on the man and become a national hero. Despite her efforts, things will not go back to normal and she finds herself becoming popular, getting invited to parties, and dating the president's son, David. When she arrives at a party with the David to get her sister's boyfriend jealous, David is outraged. Only after this, does Sam realized that she is in love with David. Sam, then, tries her very hardest to get him to forgive her. When he accepts her apology, the two are finally happy.
I liked this book because Meg Cabot has a wonderful sense of humor, good style of writing, and an excellent plot. I think that her character, Sam, is just like everybody. She is confused, but thinks that she knows who she is. Weaved throughout the story is an amusing sense of humor that makes one want to keep reading. Another reason why one might want to deep reading is because of the story itself. I think that the idea of a "nobody" saving the president is extremely attention grabbing. In my opinion, having the president's son in love with her is even more interesting. Meg Cabot's story lines are so good and miracle-filled that one just wants o keep reading to find out what happens at the very end.
I disliked the book because it is a bit far-fetched. I don't think that someone would save the president because the president is securely guarded so that nothing can happen to him. I don't even think that the president would let his son go to a drawing class because he is afraid of what might happen. It is almost impossible for someone to save the president, let alone fall in love with the president's son. If the book had been about saving the president or falling in love with his son, it would have been better. I think that having both subjects is too much because Meg Cabot doesn't go into detail about them enough.
My favorite part in this book is when Sam learns that she did something great. After she saves the president, her family is nicer to her, the popular people like her, people admire her, and she doesn't feel like herself. Although Sam can take everything for granted, she doesn't because she wants things to go back to normal. Sam knows what is like to be popular and famous even though she doesn't want to. I think that this is probably my favorite part because it shows me how hard it is to be famous and popular. It teaches me to accept me for who I am and stay the same no matter what happens.
