Book Review: A Brief Glimpse

A dramatic, theatrical publication....sad, but "boastful" account of the writer's life story. One star for entertainment value.
I should perhaps assign a higher rating for this book, because it could serve as a valuable tool in the future. Long after Damien Echols and others are executed for their crimes, any understanding we, as both professionals and parents, will yearn for insight into the minds of killers. It is a rare gift to be granted a glimpse of the mental processes of those who deviate from society, but this book offers so much in the way of pure, although diluted, information. Mr. Echols attempts to "shrug off" responsibility for his crimes by continuously expressing sympathy for his plight in life, harboring great ire towards the world in general.
While Echols' laments should be ingested as "fictional" in an overall approach, by looking deeply into his bitter words, we can perhaps begin to understand the "whys and hows" of heinous murderers. As Mr. Echols nears his execution day, we can only hope that his next "volume" will contain more of the explanation as to "why". Far too often, criminals "cocoon themselves" from reality, possibly due to fear of facing the reality of their crime.
Three little boys were brutally murdered in this small town, a crime for which Mr. Echols has been tried, convicted, and now sits restlessly on death row. A little remorse in his next book would be a breath of fresh air for all of us seeking to understand and halt future behavior of killers such as Echols.
A book to be purchased, at best, at a used book store or handed down.
