I did not give this book five stars because I was somewhat troubled by Uruburu's narration of characters' thoughts. Though I do not doubt that Uruburu based almost all such passages on published sources (mainly memoirs, to judge by the bibliography), I would have preferred that exactly what had been so written be made explicit in the text.
That quibble aside, however, this is a very nice read and an excellent book. The author keep her focus more or less throughout the book: that focus was the intertwined causes and consequences of celebrity. It is true that as a curious person I would have been interested in a more fleshed depiction of Nesbit's life after the trial(s), especially as it seems likely that Nesbit was a much more interesting person as a (full) adult, but I cannot fault the writer for not making the book what it does not proport to be.
I would like to add a note as well about the pleasing presentation of the book: the copy editing was far better than in most books published these days, and the book design itself is fine, serving to make this not only an intellectually satisfying work, but also a fine reading experience.
