This book reads like an padded version of the Wikipedia entry for "Aly & AJ". It resembles an undergraduate research paper, written by a fan having limited contact to Aly and AJ, with most of the quotations coming from magazine articles and interviews. It is superficial and lacks details relating to their religious upbringing, early schooling, and their reasoning. A knowledgeable fan will know 95% of what is covered in the book and many more facts that are omitted. The book has many pages of "filler" material such as the influence that "Lizzie McGuire" had on the creator of "Phil of the Future". It also has typographical errors that should have been detected by a proof reader that understood the material.
That being said, most 8 to 12-year-olds will not be aware of the book's shortcomings, so I generously gave it 3 stars.
Alyson and Amanda have already provided the best way to understand them - their music.
