Book Review: a thrilling read with historical detail

When I first picked up Instance of the Fingerpost it was only just published in hardcover (I work in the largest English language bookshop in Amsterdam). I was intrigued by its cover. Judging on the cover proved to be the right choice. I started reading this book in four parts and couldn't put it down anymore. The first part (Marco da Cola's account) intrigued me so much that I read on for hours and hours through the night, completely forgetting where I was and that I actually had a job waiting for me the next morning. Where was this story going? Who did it, or wasn't it murder after all? And the historical detail and the introduction of all those famous English characters (Locke, Boyle, Cromwell's assistants)... I was swept away!! As good as Umberto Eco? Me thinks NOT!! Eco out of the way: Instance of the fingerpost is still next to my bed.. I just cannot choose what is actually my favourite passage in the story... Go get it in your nearest bookshop (the W-ones you know ;))!
