Book Review: Very fine reportage, but incomplete
Summary: 4 Stars
While Angler's a highly educational and generally well-written expose of Cheney's extreme ideas and power grabs, I'm not giving it five stars because I think it's a little premature. Meaning Gellman purports to give us a history of "The Cheney Vice Presidency," but so much information about the guy is still classified or otherwise at present unknown or unknowable that I don't think that that's an entirely accurate title.
Hopefully someday Gellman will be able to revisit his subject and give us an updated tome. Which will no doubt merit the highest rating possible, as, if anyone's ever going to give us a Compleat Angler, Gellman's the man to do it.
PS: While Cheney remains a little shrouded in darkness even after Angler, Gellman makes Cheney's man Addington's criminality clear as day. Bybee and Yoo have been getting all the press lately, but Angler practically reads like an indictment of Addington.
