Book Reviews of Atlas ShruggedBook Review: A MUST-READ! This is a life changing book. Summary: 5 Stars
I reluctantly picked up this book to read. It was recommened years ago by a friend. This book is amazing. Not in how it is written, nor the story, although I found the setting and plot intriquing. What is the driving force of this novel, is the underlying philosophy, the message behind the story. I don't agree with every example in the book, but I agree, 100%, with the basic message. Everyone, starting in highschool, ought to read this book. It would enrich lives. Heck, it would even save lives. Read this book. Give it some thought. Try not to get bogged down in the details. See the underlying messages regarding values, helping humanity, selfishness vs. selflessness, etc. I'm certain this book frightens and/or angers many people. However, I have faith that the majority are emboldened by Ms. Ryand's philosophy.
Book Review: A Masterpiece--read it! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is truly a masterpiece. What more can be said about Atlas Shrugged that has not already been said? The book itself is hard to describe and takes a little while to get into, but I promise that it is worth it. I've never seen such a brilliant weaving of a philosophy into a novel. Rand will make you think and challenge many of your assumptions about the world. Even if you're on the left wing side of things, if you read this book with an open mind, it'll make you think. Although Rand's philosophy was a bit extreme to me and I don't agree with all of it, Atlas Shrugged is still one of the most inspiring works I've ever read. It will inspire you to strive for excellence and at the same time lay out why socialism/communism will always fail. As a side note--Hugo Chavez's fate is spelled out in the book and he doesn't even know it.
Book Review: A Misunderstood Masterpiece Summary: 5 Stars
ayn rand beseeches us to acknolowedge our duty to engage the modern material svadharma (not in these words). 'atlas shrugged' illustrates the dangers of rampant apathy, or wantonly misplaced idealism (on the part of the masses) in the midst of catastrophic collective illusion.she conveys the very nature of compassion; and it's not flowers for all (not yet!). the protagonists are modern arjunas. in today's world, maybe it's not possible without revolutionary change -- the essence is too diluted. this is a new scenario, that goes further by proposing a plausible contemporary social modus operandi. (where can i meet dagny?!) an epic hyperbole, every word has its place. the thrilling pace devours itself (my first read took less than 1 week). so relax, and let her take you on a trip. written from 1946-1957, this is a utopian, salt-of-the-earth 1984 -- without big brother. it purports a means, not an end. the individual must incorporate, improvise, and reflect upon the possibilities of capitalism if its citizens totally embodied thee greater good. currency represents potential in material form. any 'spritiual' society has 'jobs.' what wonderful opportunity to do good with that! this is the author's challenge to each of us.
Book Review: A More Modern Nietzsche Summary: 5 Stars
This is a book that exposes a lot of "high minded" schemes for what they really are - attempts to gain money, prestige, and power by deception and by taking another's contributions. Productive people will find truth in Ayn Rand's words. Unproductive people will hate this book for exposing their true worth. This is a long, sometimes tedious but entertaining book that will be long remembered by the reader who invests time in reading it.
Book Review: A Must Read!!! Wonderful story and philosophy Summary: 5 Stars
