Book Review: Atmosphere? It's sadly lacking in it!
Summary: 3 Stars

The plot: an ageing New York cop, Frank Ballaro spots a trail of blood outside his home, he follows it and comes across a naked man with his manly bits missing, said man then ends up under the wheels of a taxi but before he dies he whispers 'Atmosphere'. The question is what is 'Atmosphere' and what is the strange black spherical object which keeps appearing at the scene of the crime? The body count increases 10 fold all young men aged between 17-20 dying off fast and all minus their appendages!, the question is why? Ballaro and his previous boss Henry Gross are then on a mission to discover the truth however grisly and gruesome it is. I can't decide whether this novel is meant to be a crime thriller, horror or a science fiction novel, (it is listed as horror). The novel is quite fast paced and makes for quick reading, but I couldn't help feeling let down by the ending which seemed to happen a little too fast. The characters were very 2-dimensional, and I just had an image of Frank Ballaro in a dirty mac and a cigar all the way through it, Columbo style!
