Book Reviews of Attaching in Adoption: Practical Tools for Today's ParentsBook Review: Real, practical advice, with hope Summary: 5 StarsI'm so glad I stumbled across this book. I've been reading "the weaver's craft" and though there is good information in that book, this one goes deeper, contains more, provides concrete examples, and tells it like it is, with HOPE.
I'd been feeling like I was missing something as I prepare for my daughter to come home. I know she can't be unaffected by her 3 years in an orphanage, but HOW she might be affected, and WHAT can I do about it? This book gave me the answers I need and the courage to be the best Mom I can be!
The adoption community needs more realistic information and tools. A prepared parent will be a successful parent with a healthy, happy family.
Thanks Deborah Gray!
Book Review: An excellent resource Summary: 5 StarsAs one who has provided post adopt support with families who have adopted traumatized children, and as an adoptive parent dealing with attachment challenges in my own family I found this book to be a must read for families in all stages of adoption. The chapters on trauma are very important for those adopting older children and those who have suffered abuse. Deborah Gray writes in a realistic yet hopeful style which analyzes the problems clearly, but then offers solutions that can help.
Book Review: A must read book Summary: 5 StarsI highly recommend this book to anyone regarding adoption. It is a rare combination of knowledgeable author with outstanding presentation that is readable and touches your heart.
Book Review: relief Summary: 4 StarsI am so glad I purchased this book. As a new adoptive parent, I had just devoured "The Primal Wound" and felt like jumping off a cliff. This book, however, is much more balanced and gives fantastic information and advice.
Book Review: Great for Parents Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful book for parents and professionals. It provides a good orientation to attachment theory in a practical and grounded manner. The suggestions for parents are practical and well thought out. I frequently recommend this book to adoptive and foster parents.
