Book Review: somewhat lacklustre tale of a Peruvian incestuous romance

Having read "The Notebooks of Don Rigoberto" by the same author, this came as rather a disappointment. As ever, Vargas Llosa explores the structural aspects of literary expression by intertwining stories written by one of the protagonists of the story within the novel itself. Comic touches compliment a worthy and broad canvas of the Peruvian middle and lower classes, but one feels that the narrative lacks the freedom and speed of "The Notebooks of Don Rigoberto".
