Book Reviews of Autumn: The CityBook Review: FANTASTICALLY APOCOLYPTIC Summary: 5 StarsThese books (The autumn novels) are absolutely fantastic. They gripped me from start to finish. The perfect zombie story. Like all my favourite zombie stories "Dawn of the Dead, "28 Days later" and "I am Legend" (which although not technically a zombie story it contains a lot of similarities), Moody understands that the best zombie stories are not about the blood and gore (although there is enough to keep the gore fans happy) but about the people. Exploring how real people cope with extreme situations where everything has been lost and struggling to find a glimmer of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. I have been hooked from the first page. The series is wonderfully apocalyptic, with moments of tremendous tensions and excitement as well as moments of genuine grief. Moody managaes to make you feel for every single one of the characters even the 'bodies'. Never predictable, there are moments of extreme surprise, you are compelled to keep reading in order to find out the fate of the various characters. The mixture of writing styles (1st and 3rd person) adds to the story and the pace, whilst bringing the reader even closer to the characters. The endless supply of characters ensures that this could run and run. I for one will never tire of Moody's Autumn world. Read Autumn, read the rest, spread the 'infection'. Highly recommended!
Book Review: Stunning!! Summary: 5 StarsI am a great fan of zombie and post apocalyptic horror and have read many books of the genres. However the Autumn series blows them all away. From the very beginning I was totally engrossed and completely ignored all that was going on around me to find out the fates of the very well written characters. These books are well paced and not hurried, the story telling is powerful and the visions described vivid. These books deserve much more attention and praise then it seems they are getting. I discovered them by chance on Amazon. There is also a website (infected books) with more info. David Moody has written a masterpiece of a series and I would love to congratulate him for it. David, if you read this I think your work is bloody brilliant.
Book Review: A breath-taking sequel to this awesome zombie saga. Summary: 5 Stars?Autumn: The City? is the second book of the four part post-apocalyptic zombie saga by David Moody. The book starts off from the same point in time as that of the first book ?Autumn?, but from the perspective of some other survivors who are all based within a huge urban city. Like in the first novel, the events quickly take off, with the desperate situation throwing the few survivors left into a complete state of shock. The novel homes in on there emotional responses and the mental stress each and every character is put under. David weaves a dark tale of tension and uncertain suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning. As the story unfolds, you meet up with the original two main characters Michael and Emma from the first novel whilst the horrific events turn quickly for the worse. The story climbs towards a dramatic ending that will leave you gasping once you?ve finished.David show?s a great talent with his writing, keeping the reader absorbed in the tale and feeling emotionally attached to the unfortunate survivors. The slow development of the zombies characteristics are well thought through and help build upon this truly breath-taking read. This book, and indeed the whole ?Autumn? series, is highly recommended to any zombie or horror fan. Once you?ve read the first novel you?re going to want to read them all!!!!
Book Review: Horror for grown-ups. Summary: 5 StarsMichael and Emma, who we met in the first book in the series, have escaped from the farmhouse, and are now living in a motorhome. They become convinced that the Army has a secret underground base nearby, and they are determined to find it. Meanwhile, in the City, dozens of other survivors have holed up in a university complex, which is becoming more and more beseiged by the walking dead. The cadavers seem to have developed an angry murdering instinct towards the survivors. They are attracted by the slightest noise, and quickly congregate en-masse when they hear any survivors nearby. There are some highly memorable touches in this story. The scene where two of the survivors, fully knowing it's their last night alive, make for a nearby pub to get as drunk as is humanly possible, whilst the cadavers eventually break in on them, stands out. This is an excellent series, and the opening up of the action in this one, bringing in many new characters, compliments the claustrophobic intimacy of the first book. The characters in these stories feel so REAL. They could be people you know. I've read that the author wanted to get away from the all-American square-jawed hero, and he's done this superbly. I seem to have been waiting for years for somebody to breathe new life into the horror genre, far away from screeching American high school students, vile descriptions of graphic sexual assaults on women, serial murders that feel like something out of a computer game, and pantomime villains, and Moody has succeeded. This is horror for grown-ups ... at long last!
Book Review: Zombawesome!! Summary: 5 StarsA group of survivors banding together, a journey across a ruined land, the dead rising and on the attack, a remote farmhouse and a fight for survival. A truely amazing novel! David Moody's tale has everything a zombie/apocalypse fan could ever need, without all the oddities many other zombie novels seem to contain. This is a pure, and believable story written in a captivating style, which made it very difficult to put down. The three main characters were nicely rounded and the journey they travel on slowly builds to a thrilling climax.
