Book Review: not all i was hoping for
Summary: 3 Stars

however it really is not all that i was hoping for, for a start it fails to mention a good number of characters who have been in the avengers over the years.
also unlike the 'Xmen ultimate guide' that goes quite in depth with each character that it is describing, the majority of the chracters in this book are only limited to one page(rather than a double page spread). also with some of the most important characters, it fails to mention some of the most important aspects of their lives and histories, for example it fails to mention that Iron Man is an alcoholic, which surely must be considered important??!! generally speaking i feel most of the characters bio's are glossed over and focus on things that are of very little importance, while key aspects are ignored.

however having said all of this, this book is still a good read, and it is the best guide to the Avengers that i have seen, as it does at least show the majority(though not all) of the characters that have appeared in the comic over the years and gives a basic look at their powers etc.

the one thing about this book that is better than other essential guides i have(eg the Xmen and Spiderman)is the artwork, however i feel the content of the book is far more important than the artwork.

i have probably put any potential buyers off of this book, but i must stress that i am still very glad that i own it, and it is a great introduction to the Avengers!! it is just for me personally who is already reasonably knowledgable, i was hoping for something a little more!!

to sum up, it is worth while buying this book if you are specifically interested in getting to know the basics on alot of the chracters from the Avengers. however if you are not necessarily concerned about every character then a general Marvel book such as Peter Sandersons 'Marvel Universe' has a chapter on the Avengers which goes into the most important aspects of the comic, while also having chapters on the majority of the other key marvel characters.
