Book Reviews of B-More Careful: Meow Meow Productions PresentsBook Review: A GOOOOOD BOOK! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't usually read stories about "the life", but this one I am glad that I read it. This book had me on the edge of my seat until I figured that I had to finish the rest of it the day after I bought it. It is packed with action, drugs, and murder. Despite the many grammar mistakes the book contained, I really enjoyed reading it.
Book Review: A Good Read, That Could Have Been Better. Summary: 3 Stars
Let me warn you, I'm very biased when it comes to "Coming-Of-Age-in-the-Hood" books. To me no author and his/her book can come close to Sistah Souljah and "The Coldest Winter Ever". Sister Souljah's characters and situations seemed more realistic. Shannon Holmes, and Terri Woods characters and situations are too stereotypical and unbelievable. When I finished reading Holmes', and Woods' books, I felt like I had just watched one of those wanna be "Boyz In The Hood" or "New Jack City" B-movies on BET. I could see Tupac, if he was still alive playing, the character "Black"."B-More Careful" is the story of Netta. Netta had it hard growing up. Her father abandon her and her mother when Netta was young. Then Netta's mother became addicted to drugs. Without any type of parental authority in her life Netta grows up hard and fast with no morals. She than becomes part of a "gold digging" clique of girls who target Baltimore's biggest drug dealers. "B-More Careful" really starts to get interesting when Netta starts dealing with the repercussions of her lifestyle choice. Holmes gives the backstory on each of the main characters, but I just didn't feel for them. The characters were very one dimensional. And this is something I find in most of these kind of stories, the main character straightens up and goes to college, like college is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I know for a fact that college campus life can be just as sensational and problematic as street life. For those who haven't read this book don't read it until you've read the following first: The Coldest Winter Ever and Flyy Girl. Flyy Girl is a little long but Omar Tyree does a good job with character development.
Book Review: A Keeper! Summary: 5 Stars
Dont you just love a book that grabbs you in the begining? well this does...and keeps you hooked till the end!
Book Review: A MUST BUY Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent book!!! It is good from the first page through the last. It will have you dying for a sequel. I'll say this, if you love the Coldest Winter Ever and B-More Careful as I did, you will love this book. I read one bad review criticizing the comparison and I strongly disagree. This book is for those who have lived in similar conditions like those described in Coldest Winter and B-More. If are not familiar with such conditions, a true appreciation for this novel can be lost. Nettie, main character, is a strong black women. Although she doesn't represent what is traditionally considered strong qualities, she is strong none the less. I really cannot stress how much I loved this book. I hope we continue to see such true-life like entertaining fiction in the future.
Book Review: A MUST HAVE!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best books that I've read so far. Shannon Holmes and Terri Woods put thier thing down with this one. It's a ghetto tale with more twists and turns than the law allows. The main character Netta is a woman that you love to hate. She uses whoever she wants to get what she wants, and usually comes out on top until she uses the wrong somebody. Each character in the book has thier own personal struggles which eventually all lead them to each other with Netta being the common link. Netta thinks she smart and ahead of the game, but only when tradgey befalls her does she re-think her game plan.....but by then it's too late. She's too deep in the game, and now it's do or die!!
