Book Review: Braveheart

Braveheart by Randall Wallace is the first book that I enjoyed. To me he doesn't tell about the story because the way the author put the detail it feels like I'm there. The book tells about a little boy. His dad and brother get kill by the king. William Wallace (the little boy) grows up and goes back to his old house in Scotloand to start a family. When he tries to start a family the king takes that away from him. Wallace get so mad and fights the king's army, with help from his friends. William Wallace did not fight for him self, he fought for love and freedom. I like how the author stayed with Scotland because this is a true story. If he tried to make it better by switching the place, I think the story would blow. For a war you should pick Scotland because of how the people are and how they love to fight and how poor the country was back then. Most of the people back then fought with farm tools, to defeat London. The charaterization is perfect in the story. The author didn't make the character tough or weak, he made them real. They had families and feelings. They were real and when one of them got injured, he did not use band-aids, he used the old way of healing in Scotland. The details were really good exept for when William was killing somebody. The author didn't put much detail in it, but all of the rest of the good detail in the book makes up for it. Everybody would probably say, just watch the movie, but they're wrong. The way the author puts the detail in the book makes it better and the movie doesn't have that, so I'm saying this to everybody that can read this high of a book. Read it, it is good. Although not historically correct, this book never claimed to be. It may also be a book version of the film script, but if you came to this book from seeing the film, that is what you'd want. I think the other reviewers are being a little too harsh, this may be pulp fiction, but if you are prepared for that, it is a good enough read. It conveys the epic battles of the film and relationships in the film quite well and isn't too bad for a film tie-in novel. There is definitely scope for a decent faction book on William Wallace, but this is an OK read for fans of the film.

As a Scotsman I first of all had grave doubts about seeing the movie version of BH. I was glad to find that it was quite an emotional film however. RW's buik however could perhaps be a little misleading to those not familiar with the story of WW, who think that this is how it happened. Personally I thought it was quite a guid buik for a 12 year old say, but if older readers wish to read a work of fiction which sticks more to the facts then they should seek out the buik "The Wallace" by Scots author Nigel Tranter. This buik makes BH luik like a Disney novel. I gave this review 3, not because of it's reliance on history, but more for the fact that it's an excellent adventure yarn for 12 year olds!!Book Review: Epic Story of Love and War
