Book Reviews of BRAVEHEART

Book Review: Much much worse than the movie
Summary: 1 Stars

Frankly, this book is pretty horrible. Randall Wallace may be a great at movie scripts, but he can't write novels worth beans. It doesn't seem as if he strives to make the reader bond with the characters; as a result, the story is flat, undramatic, and unemotional, completely opposite from the movie. Really, the novelization doesn't do the movie any justice

Book Review: One of the greatest adventures ever told
Summary: 5 Stars

As a rule, I do not read novelizations of screenplays because they are usually written by struggling young authors who are merely copying what they read in the screenplay into prose. I made an exception in this case, however, because the same author penned both the novel and the screenplay. This is his story, from start to finish, and he tells it well, in both film and print.

Most everyone has seen the movie, so I'll be brief and just say the book is better: the book contains scenes cut from the movie; the story is more effective in print because it takes longer to build up and develop some of the crucial moments; the biting dialogue is not lost in the montage of on-screen violence; and the characters seem better developed. The only elements that translate better on the big screen are, obviously, the battle scenes.

Book Review: Please: someone put me out of my misery
Summary: 1 Stars

The film Braveheart was truly magnificent and amazing to watch. It's one of my all time favourites, despite the historical inaccuracies.

This book, however, is complete rubbish. I saw the movie before I read the book, so I was able to project pre-formed images and ideas into what I was reading. That made me able to finish this book. The grammar is so awful that one wonders how an editor would allow it to be published. It seems like he wrote a 10 grade (long) report on the movie. Images were not completely described, dialogue was not inserted well into the text and generally it was painful to get through. It does complete injustice to the wonderful screenplay that he wrote. My advice - stick to writing screenplays Mr. Wallace and leave the novel writing to novel writers.

Book Review: See the movie; don't read the book.
Summary: 1 Stars

In the movie version of "Braveheart," I was able to overlook the historical innacurracies because of the excitement of the battle scenes and the epic feeling of the entire movie. But in this novel version, those inaccuracies are glaring, and this reader - without the stirring excitement of the movie battles - could not overlook them, and could not enjoy the novel because of them. Even were the story fully accurate historically, it is not very well-written, and, as another reviewer stated, is a fit story for children, but adults had better seek another source.

Book Review: This Book Is Truly Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

When you read this book one thing arises in your mind. Can there have possibly have been a more brave, courageous, and passionate man. By passionate I dont mean his brief sexual relations with the prince or his wife. I mean passionate in his beliefs about the English rule. I only wish that a man like William Wallace would become a president or another high position. Randall Wallace describes Wallace inaccurate but truly breathtaking. If you enjoyed the movie you'll love the book.
