Book Reviews of Batista Unleashed

Book Review: Great Book
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great book that tells the life of the WWE superstar Batista. It's got lots of pictures and information about his life. It is the first book in a long time that I did not want to put down.

Book Review: Great and Entertaining Read
Summary: 5 Stars

My son read this book and told me I would like it. My first thought was, no thanks, I really do not want to read another meat head jock athlete book. So it sat on my desk for about a month. Then I picked it up and thumbed thru the pictures and noticed the books format is not chapters per se, but micro segments. So I read a few and few more and then in a couple of days I finished the book before I knew it!

Batista Unleashed is so much more then a jocks story, it is the story of a Dude that was big time down and out and did not know how to get out of it. He shows his heart and falls on his sword many times during this book when he could have easily avoided it. He put himself out there and I believe it paid off in a truly excellent book to read. I was amazed at his true openness in this book.

I was a come and go wrestling fan. My brother loves wrestling and then my son started, so to spend time with him, I started watching Raw and having my 13 year old teaching me about the biz. I tell you I have become a fan and now after reading this I have a deep appreciation for the folks that go out and lay it on the line for our enjoyment night after night.

I highly recommend this book to fans of wrestling or folks that just want to read a humble success story of a poor cast out kid to success.

Book Review: Great book
Summary: 4 Stars

Reading batista's book changed my perspective of not only him, but the WWE as well. After reading this book, the events that happen on the shows make more sense.

I read this book in a few hours, it is an easy read and will keep you entertained to the end. I have not read a book that has made me laugh so much as this one has. My favorite part was when batista, triple h and ric flair were in the car and ric flair was driving..and lost but was insisting that he was not lost and the city had simply relocated the freeway!

Dave really opened up and showed the fans that in real life, he is nothing like his charactor on the show. I recommend this to any WWE fan.

Book Review: Honest and Interesting
Summary: 5 Stars

My 13 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed this autobiography which not only details the struggles but the triumphs of one of the greatest WWE athletes ever. His honesty and openness to share his life really created a very captivating story. He's a good example of how a person can overcome adversity and triumph! Thanks Dave! You ARE the greatest!

Book Review: It is what it is
Summary: 3 Stars

Batista Unleashed... the story so far of WWE star Dave Batista. This ranks along the lines of Adam Copeland On Edge. Not really sure why there's a book on someone this early in their career other than as money potential for the WWE. Edge's was written while on injury. Jericho's A Lion's Tale was written at a turning point in his life when it was uncertain he would be returning to wrestling. Batista's book is simply here for the money machine for the company.

As for the book itself, the strong point of this story is that it feels like how you would hear it if you were actually sitting there talking to the man. Tom Billington does this with Pure Dynamite effectively and Batista's works just as well. Unfortunately, he skips back and forth between the short time span of events it seems more like random thoughts and afterthoughts. He gives his opinions on his peers, thanking many of them for helping him along or influencing him. He likes D-von but doesn't care for Bubba Dudley. He, of course, spends a lot of time seemingly sucking up to Flair and Triple H but these are they guys he travelled with and who he hangs out with.

For the most part, he seems to be truthful throughout, covering lightly some of his personal life and family. Some of the language is harsh for young readers. He actually admits he's not the strongest in terms of performances or ability in the ring but he's also a bit egotistical of his position in the company. He did rise to the top almost as quickly as Brock Lesnar did and he puts more emphasis on himself then maybe he deserves. Overall, this is far from the best wrestling biographies but it is certainly readable. It was interesting but is obvious that it was only brought about for the money aspect for the company. Batista put a lot of stock in his rivalry with the Undertaker but it's funny that his co-writer, Jeremy Roberts, didn't include it in his solo book Showdowns: The 20 Greatest Wrestling Rivalries of the Last Two Decades (WWE).

I never would have bought this hardcover version except it now shows up in the bargain / remainder book stacks for $6 now.
