Ever since Batman:The Animated Series first aired, I've always wondered how they did their drawings and what inspired them to draw Batman or Joker like they did. This book gives you all the details with VERY nice pictures and storyboard pictures of some episode parts. This book has it all, every single villan and hero from the series is in this book. From information, to crazy prototype drawings. Also it includes info about The new Batman/Superman adventures and how come they changed how everyone looked. The 2 Batman movies Subzero and Mask of the Phantasm are in there too! Why they chose their story and other interesting stuff. Who best to write a book about this justifiably award-winning animated series than one of the series writer/producers--Paul Dini (who wrote one of my favorite episodes--"Heart of Ice")? And with graphic designer Chip Kidd involved, you have a book that looks great on the coffee table. The best word I can use to describe this book is "thorough." It contains superlative art in full color, storyboards, character designs, in-house memos, licensed products, an episode guide from the animated series, plus great information on why the series was created, why the censors said no to certain aspects, as well as facts about the movies based on the series (SUBZERO, MASK OF THE PHANTASM). My only complaint is that the book isn't longer. But that's not the authors' fault. They put together such a great book, you'll want as much insight into the creation of this series as you can get (like a good DVD provides). And these guys deliver! This is a great "backstage" look for fans of the series.Book Review: A must have!

I grew up on this series, and as an adult I'm still in awe of the art in it! I was shocked by what ground breaking advances this show made in television after reading this book! If you love the show, you'll love this book. A must have for Batman collectors. Countless sketches, stills and artwork crowd this gorgeous documentary of the awesome animated series. By far the best incarnatioin of the Dark Knight to ever be concieved, Batman The Animated series has been a pioneering force in the world of animation. This book explains and illustrates why. The artists get it. Dini's uniques vision made it to the small screen relatively undilluted from the interference of too many people. This wonderfully designed book shows the series development and maintenance throughout its many makeovers. It includes many never before seen sketches and ideas that didn't make it to the shows final film noir look. A smart purchase.
