Book Review: Finally someone whom you can trust completely
Summary: 5 Stars

Twenty years ago I bought this book in Delhi in order to have some good
reading for a would-be sannyasin, who was en route to an ashram for an indefinite period. Well, the book was read through many times so that it also became geru (the ochre colour of the robes of sannyasins), but I did not understand the central tenets of Ramana Maharshi. Now, after much water has flown in the Ganga, I feel that I have very theoretically understood something of what Ramana Maharshi, the most atractive and lovable of Indian ascetic of the 20th centure, was trying to teach to us blockheads. After being disappointed with so many "gurus", it is a wonderful feeling to have met someone in the "biz" ( no, - actually outside the guru biz) who has no selfish motives. He was a true ''jivan mukta'', completely enlightened person, and gave his sparse verbal teachings with a lucidity and logic, which overwhelm my western mind. Sometimes I, a jnani-type intellectual, am moved to tears reading him.

Give yourself time and patience for this book! Godman's series of "The Power of the Presence" are helpful reading beside "Be as you are", as the reminiscenses of people who visited Ramana Maharshi have more emotional appeal compared with "the bare bones" Ramana Maharshi serves. It is good to keep in mind, that the book cannot transmit the most important "method" Ramana Maharshi used in his "upadesa" (teaching): his pregnant and powerful silence.
Godman is the chief interpreter of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi in our times. He has stayed close to the Holy Hill of Arunachala ever since 1976. He worked during the 80'es as the librarian of the Ramanashramam, and has written some great spiritual books about the devotees and followers of Ramana Maharshi.

Book Review: A must read for everyone on the spiritual path
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the great challenges in understanding the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and numerous other spiritual authors is that their teachings are passed on, for the most part, by books that record their conversations in question and answer format. That is, their answers to questions put to them by individual seekers. What most are unaware, is that the answers provided by spiritual teachers are different for different seekers to accomodate their level of development and differing interests. That is why some of the answers 'appear' contradictory. This can cause difficulty in adopting a spiritual practice strictly from reading a book, as we do not know which teachniques best fit us and may get confusted on the essence of their teaching. Well, after 12 years of study and practice of the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi and numerous other authors I recently 'happened' upon this wonderful puplication. The editor did a wonderful job of organizing the teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi into chapters covering the essence of his different teachings that he tailored for each different type of seeker. He also provides an introduction to summarize the essence of his teachings. This book brought an amazing clarity to Sri Ramana's teachings as well as an improved understanding of all spiritual paths and practices. This book is a must read for anyone on the path of Sri Ramana Maharshi as well as for anyone on any other spiritual path as it covers the essence of all spiritual paths (e.g., surrender and self-enquiry). Enjoy.

Book Review: The best book on/by Ramana
Summary: 5 Stars

Be as you are gets to the point. It really fills in the gaps of misunderstandings and doubts that the inquisitive mind may have upon contemplating his teaching. Deeper angles, slightly turns delivering his message, have helped me gain a deeper understanding of his teaching. Trully highly recommended reading!

Book Review: I THINK therefore I AM NOT !

The teachings are very good. They have a different spiritual concepts.
The author must have took years to research Sri Ramana's teachings
He explains the conflict of the teachings and the reasons behind it.
But always remember Sri Ramana Maharshi main teaching is silence.
You have to read it and enjoy the teachings. It might help you to BECOME AS YOU ARE.

Book Review: this is the one
Summary: 5 Stars

of all the books written by and about Ramana, this is probably the very best. I have read all of them that I could get my hands on, and keep coming back to this one.
