Book Reviews of Beating Cancer with Nutrition

Book Review: AWESOME BOOK!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book and could not put it down! Great research was done and references to other books to read was helpful, all the research was done for you.

Very practical ideas to do......cancer can be prevented, anyone should read this book with cancer or not!

I have cancer or should I say had! My tumor was removed in October 2006 and scans a few weeks ago showed the all clear. I refused post surgical Chemo, I had Radiation and Chemo before surgery and that did my body in. I was Stage III and 40 years old......my doctor told me I was his ONLY patient to refuse Chemo, what does that tell us?! He is a great medical doctor and I will stay with him to monitor me.....but I will SURVIVE and show him there are other ways.

I am now getting a degree in Holistic Nutrition because of my readings about cancer.

God Bless,

Liz

Book Review: Useful information, but anti-medical
Summary: 3 Stars

This book is very useful -- technical information is written in a way that is easy for a "lay reader" to understand. The most important message I got from this book is that "cancer feeds on sugar; stop eating sugar!" I had no idea until I read this book, and I have heard/read that numerous times since.

My only problem with this book is how "anti-doctor" it seems to be. I admit that doctors treat cancer with medicine, and that they do not discuss nutrition with patients very much, if at all. Doctors TRUST medicine and clinical studies. I believe nutrition is just as important as medicine in beating MY cancer, but I'm not going to turn my back on my oncologist. As much as I hate chemotherapy, I believe it has been THE key in controlling and beating my cancer. I wish the medical community and the nutritionist could come together -- we need joint research and cooperation. Not an "us and them" mentality.

Finally, this book suggests a slew of supplements that are claimed to beneficial for cancer patients. Talk each of these decisions over with your doctor. If you doctor will not talk to you about supplements, then find a new doctor! But do not begin taking a bunch of OTC remedies without consulting someone -- herbs/vitamins can interfere with traditional cancer regimes; herbs/vitamins that are taken simutaneously can cause adverse side affects. Be informed, but be careful and do keep seeing your doctor!

Book Review: The FDA & the FTC Cannot Abide Competition
Summary: 5 Stars

Getting cancer is truly a scary experience, especially when one's doctor does little more than offer the shaky prospects of chemotherapy and invasive surgery. In BEATING CANCER WITH NUTRITION, Patrick Quillin counters with a program that works better than conventional methods, is far cheaper, and possesses almost none of the corrosive side effects of harsh radiation. Quillian is in the same camp as Kevin Trudeau (author of "Natural Cures"), in that both believe that most medical doctors deliberately downplay alternative medicine in favor of chemo and surgery. Quillian, however, stays away from the cabal conspiracy between the pharmaceuticals and big business and generously implies that the omission is due more to ignorance than a desire to garner profits over patients. Quillian writes in a style that is compact and informative for the layman. He provides a host of nutritional approaches while adding that cancer is a hydra with many heads, and no one size hat fits all. What I like about this book is that Quillian's obvious sincerity and knowhow shine through, giving a plethora of invaluable information that begins where modern medicine leaves off. BEATING CANCER WITH NUTRITION is a must read for those who refuse to submit to the brutalities of chemistry and the scalpel.
