Book Reviews of Beating Cancer with Nutrition

Book Review: A Plan of Action.
Summary: 5 Stars

If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with cancer, Beating Cancer With Nutrition will give you both an action plan to allow you to assist in your treatment regimen. Flawed nutrition was probably partially to blame for your disease, and good nutrition can make your treatment more likely to succeed.

If you'd like to change your lifestyle to avoid a future diagnosis of cancer, here's a book that will serve as a very readable road map.

Book Review: EXCELLENT BOOK, A MUST READ!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Words could not express the amount of gratitude I have for the author of this book. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer three months ago. I started stuffing her with veggies and fruits, etc. as the book recommends (among other things). Upon her follow up appointment with the doctor her blood work was much better. The book gives a lot of helpful information, that the doctors do not tell you about. They tell you to exercize but they never explain WHY... which makes you LEAST likely to comply. Nor do doctors ever tell you to change your diet when you're diagnosed with cancer. They simply tell you to live your life like "normal". As if that is possible when you are faced with the "Big C". The author gives a TON of information about nutrition, supplements, attitude, etc. This book gave us hope that we can take control of the disease and fight back. While skeptics may say that there is no guarantee nutrition will cure cancer, the same can be said of chemo and radiation. This book certainly made me see things in a positive light and gave my mother and my family the faith (along with God) and desire to fight back. I HIGHLY recommend this book to patients and loved ones facing cancer. Together, you CAN beat it.

Book Review: Slash, Poison and Burn--a Family Physician's probably biased opinion
Summary: 4 Stars

Actually, I haven't had a chance to even open the shipping box yet, however, I am very interested in reading the 2 books I ordered in this shipment on this related topic. You see, I am a Family Physician--NOT an oncologist (Cancer specialist)--and have long believed that we do not treat or manage oncologic (cancer) diseases as best as possible in the US. I have seen way too many patients submit or be subjected to the "Slash, Poison, and Burn" protocols over the years, be given (false) hope--though without hope, none of us have any "goals," etc.--only to be "abandonned" by their cancer-treatment team when the bottom falls out.
Often, the cancer teams almost "steal" patients from we generalists in that we have little contact with our affected patients while they are undergoing active treatment and so long as the follow-ups have no major "bumps in the road." When there is "nothing left to do," these same patients, who have become relative strangers to us, get tossed back in our laps for their "end of life" course, and frankly, I have come to resent this. Actually, I may be inappropriately and uninformedly "spouting off" since I detest malignant diseases (of course, who doesn't???) and haven't really followed them academically.... BUT, first of all Cancer is NOT one disease; second, it is a "breach" of the immune system and thus, I believe the immune system MUST be at the core of truly successful treatment--NOT necessarily expensive, not to mention quite lucrative (for some), treatments that all too often prove to just postpone the inevitable. Further, unfortunately, medicine in the US at this point is a situation of "have's, and have not's" with respect to access, and we are all looking for a "quick fix" in the form of a pill or IV-squirt, etc., for whatever seems to ail us. Our US society, in general, could well benefit from nutritional and fitness efforts and therapies as opposed to "going to the doctor" and walking out with a prescription for something. Hey, I'm as lazy as everyone else in so far as accepting responsibility for myself and making such efforts, too. I am simply aware that successful treatments for cancer ARE available and ARE in use in other countries. For anyone who may read my remarks, please do not misunderstand. I do not intend to reprove the protocols that are in use in the US, just that there is also "something more" available as well. Let me close by stating that, at least as far as I am aware at this time, I do NOT have any malignant disease, nor do any of my close family members. If/when I or anyone in my family does become diagnosed with a cancer, I truly cannot say which route(s) I would choose. As a physician, however, I advise patients to learn--truly LEARN and KNOW--ALL of their options, to NOT panic at their diagnosis, to MAKE A PLAN with respect to their treatment, and to be their own ADVOCATE or to have someone who is their advocate since navigating the medical system can be extremely overwhelming. And once within the system, getting out of it if/when one decides to do so is as difficult and stopping and getting off that proverbial "merry-go-round" on the playgrounds of our youths.
Thank you. Beth A. Bigham, MD

PS. The 4-star rating I gave above is not necessarily accurate, since I have not yet read the materials--only that I am more than optimistic that I will agree with much of what is contained therein. --BAB

Book Review: Terrific and a big help
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this book for my best friend, newly diagnosed with breast cancer. She liked the book so much that she purchased it for an another person with cancer. Both of them have found the book very interesting and helpful in the daily fight with horrible disease

Book Review: The best cancer book there is
Summary: 5 Stars

After checking many books referred by friends and my own research, my oncologist recommended this book. I had stage 4 metastasized breast cancer and it has been my best guide and reference of the dozens of books that I have. I am almost done with treatment and it continues to be the guide for my next step. Combining nutrition and traditional treatments made my side effects almost nil as I continued to work full time. This will be the primary book I refer anybody that asks about preventing or treating cancer. The right Doctor helps tremendously.
