Book Reviews of Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast

Book Review: Wonderful! I've loved it for years!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was told by a friend to read this book about 15 years ago... Since then, I re-read it about once a year. It is my absolute favorite rendition of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. The people are more alive, the story more touching and realistic than any other version I have encountered.

Book Review: It's the best of the best of fantasy!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is one of the best I've ever read. It's full of suspense, mystery, romance, and very believable characters. The story comes alive in new and exciting ways that I've never seen before. I've read it three times so far and will read it again and again in the future. If you have any interest in fairy tales, read this book! It's the best of the best. McKinley's other books are of the highest quality also and I recommend anyone who likes believable fantasy to read this and all of her other books.

Book Review: Captivating book!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is the most beleivable retelling of a fairy tale I have ever read. Beauty is a young woman that is fascinated by the legendary Beast in the wood. However, when her father comes home with a promise and a rose, she is suprised to hear herself agree to live with the Beast. After living with him semi-happily for a while, she goes home to deliver some startling news, and finds she loves a beast!

Book Review: Engaging and creative. You won't want to put it down!
Summary: 5 Stars

'Beauty' is truly one of my favorite books! It is the type of book that sucks you in and doesn't let go 'till the end. It isn't an action packed book or anything like that at all. It is more or less a quiet type of book that is good to read when you are inside on a stormy day sipping tea. I recomend this book highly for anyone who likes to read interesting books. And who doesn't?

Book Review: A book for book lovers
Summary: 5 Stars

I have searched used book stores for this book for years-imagine my delight at finding new copies available! This is a book for book lovers. The characters of Beauty and the Beast, which have become archetypal in the West, are rejuvenated and recreated, making the story a surprise even to those of us who know and love it well. McKinley's humor is very engaging and her characters' emotions are palpable. Most importantly, however, this is a story with which all devoted readers can sympathise, for Beauty loves books, of which she can never get enough. Stories of antiquity and the process of storytelling infuse McKinley's narrative, and one can clearly see the influence that story has on other stories, particularly on the stories of our lives. This is a living book, and a magical one.
