Book Review: "The Giver" by Lois Lowry
Summary: 4 Stars
Lois Lowry wonderfully depicts a perfect society in "The Giver." The society contains no poverty, unemployment, or inequality. What is even more interesting is that everyone in the society is given an assignment at the age of twelve years old. These assignments include what that person will be in life, and are selected by the elders of the community. When twelve year old Jonas discovers his life assignment to be the receiver of memory, he is confused. Jonas is the only twelve year old with this special assignment, in which he can embrace memories from the past. Jonas soon realzes that he should not be the only one to be aware of these memories. However, in order for society to discover them, Jonas must leave the society and never return."The Giver" is a very exciting book. It keeps readers wanting to know what will happen next. It is interesting to read about how a perfect society could be if it existed. It challenges readers to think beyond the society in which they live in.
