Book Review: A Novel About Last Choices
Summary: 5 Stars
This novel is such a tough read because the writer has created a character who is vibrantly alive, and you desperately want her to stay that way. Tessa's list is heartbreaking because it has so many things on it that most adults take for granted, and while you don't expect her to fall in love in the twilight of her life, you are so glad she does.
The writing is stark at times, and then, when you really least expect it, you start reading bits of poetry that have been thrown in, demonstrating a greater depth to Jenny Downham's writing style, especially towards the end of the book.
Do I recommend this book? Yes. Just don't expect it's going to be an easy read. Then again, nothing worthwhile is ever really easy.
