Book Reviews of Behind the Smile: My Jurney Out of Postpartum Depression

Book Review: great book - I couldn't put it down..
Summary: 5 Stars

As soon as I got it I started reading and couldn't put it down. Marie Osmond writes very personal stuff about her Post partum depression and her reactions, feelings that are very private. She's done this so no one else going through the same thing feels alone.

She wrote that she felt totally alone until her Mother admitted she went through the very same thing. That is why Marie went public with this very personal issue - to help others and this book I hope will help others. She also has a chapter written by her doctor and resources in the back of the book for more help.

Great pictures - especially of her adorable 7 children.

It's a great book

Book Review: Thank you for your courage, Marie!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've followed Marie's career since I was a young girl myself. I've never known her to be more real than she has been in this book. I also experienced PPD after the birth of my first child, and also had issues of abuse from my childhood come up while I suffered with it. I greatly appreciated her courage to reveal the fact that she'd been abused as a child. I recommend this book to anyone who's either experienced PPD in the past, or is experiencing it now. I also recommend it to husbands and friends of the sufferer of PPD. I in no way heard "poor me" from Marie, and applaud her for speaking out on the issues surrounding this subject.

Book Review: IF you wanted fluff and dirt, this isn't for you!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a single 38 year old woman anxiously awaiting children - at this point in life, I just have depression and 'female' problems. I began to read this book because I have always been a fan of Marie's. I gained much more than I expected. Marie skillfully and thoughtfully discusses PPD and I took away a great deal from this read. It made me address my own over expexcation of myself - and my own depression. Since reading her book, I've gotten medical help for my imbalance and am feeling more like the old me all the time.

I've even discussed PPD with a couple of dear friends, something that most women don't discuss.

Congratulations, Marie. You've de-mystified PPD for those who have not experienced it - or weren't sure they did - and for the men in our lives who love us, but just don't understand us complicated creatures!!

Book Review: Country girl
Summary: 5 Stars

Could not put the book down until I finished it! Hats off to Marie. She poured her heart and soul out to everyone with true depth of honesty. I can understand the frustration of always being "fine" and putting feelings on the "back burner" to satisy everyone elses needs. Women are accustomed to always being nurturers, we do not take the time for ourselves. So thank you, Marie, for making us realize that we now MUST.

Book Review: A Self Look and More
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't put this book down. Although I have always been a fan of the famous family, Marie is so brutally honest that all was not Honky Dorey. As I would read the words on the page I recognized things that I had felt and still feel after having my twins (twice). This book is not only great for women but for men also. It gives insight to men that sometimes we cannot ask for your help. Saying everything is "fine" is not always the case and someone needs to recognize this. You will not be disappointed. Marie has a great sense of humor and is so honest in saying that she wants to help other women. Believe it or not, she even used the word "hell" and when did you ever hear her say that word on national television?? It is a wonderful true story of this woman that looked like she had the perfect life, that had to admit that everything was not "fine". Hats off to you Marie and thank you for allowing your readers to get to know another side of you.
